Head of Credit (CPG Financing)
Own the purchase order finance credit strategy end to end and build the credit organization behind a new $500 million CPG capital program.

About the role
We are looking for a credit leader who sees underwriting as ripe for transformation. You have run disciplined credit operations in commercial lending, asset-based lending, or specialty finance, and you are energized by the chance to rebuild credit discipline using data, models, and technology rather than legacy spreadsheets.
You will own the credit strategy for our purchase order finance program, chair the credit committee, and build the team and tooling behind it.
Key responsibilities
Credit strategy and program ownership
- Own the purchase order finance credit strategy end to end.
- Design the credit framework, including underwriting standards, advance rates, and concentration limits.
- Author credit policy, approval matrices, and playbooks aligned with risk strategy.
- Chair the credit committee with final transaction approval authority.
Underwriting leadership
- Lead underwriting for complex PO finance opportunities with growing CPG brands.
- Evaluate borrower financials, purchase orders, supplier terms, and supply chain dynamics.
- Structure transactions that balance borrower needs with downside protection.
- Own portfolio performance through early warning indicators and stress testing.
Data, product, and technology enablement
- Partner with product and engineering to reimagine PO finance underwriting.
- Set the vision for decisioning tools, scorecards, and dashboards.
- Define data requirements and feedback loops for continuous model improvement.
- Champion automation across the PO lifecycle.
Leadership and team
- Build and lead the credit and underwriting organization as the program scales.
- Establish standards for credit quality and analytical rigor.
- Recruit, coach, and develop talent with an ownership and continuous improvement mindset.
- Partner with Sales, Partnerships, and Capital Markets teams.
Stakeholder management and governance
- Serve as the senior credit voice for purchase order financing internally and externally.
- Own credit policy formation and capital markets discussions with funding sources.
- Collaborate with compliance, legal, and operations on regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Shape strategic decisions on product extensions and capital structures.
Qualifications and experience
- 7–20 years of progressive experience in commercial credit, asset-based lending, trade finance, or specialty finance, including a senior leadership capacity.
- Deep underwriting experience with middle-market borrowers, ideally CPG brands selling to large retailers.
- Track record designing credit frameworks and policies for new or evolving product lines.
- Demonstrated conviction that data and models strengthen credit decisions, with examples of building scorecards or analytics-driven tools.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including complex capital structures and collateral analysis.
- Experience building and scaling high-impact credit teams.
- Executive presence and communication skills for presenting to boards and external partners.
- Entrepreneurial orientation suited to fast-moving, high-growth environments.
- Purchase order financing or closely related pre-shipment supply chain finance experience is preferred.
